FAQS

Can psychologists prescribe medication?

No. In Australia, psychologists cannot prescribe medication. Only medical practitioners such as GPs, psychiatrists and some specialist nurses can prescribe medications such as antidepressants or ADHD medication.

Your psychologist can, however:
– Liaise with your GP or psychiatrist (with your consent);
– Share relevant observations about symptoms and progress; and
– Help you weigh up the pros and cons of medication alongside psychological treatment.

This collaborative approach supports integrated care and better outcomes.
