At the time of writing, Medicare rebates under the Better Access program provide up to 10 individual sessions per calendar year with a psychologist, provided you have an appropriate referral.
If you and your therapist feel you would benefit from further sessions once your rebated sessions are used, options include:
– Continuing with privately funded sessions;
– Using private health insurance if you have psychology cover;
– Exploring whether you are eligible for support under DVA, NDIS, workers’ compensation, MAIB, or other schemes;
– Discussing next steps with your GP, who can review your plan and overall care.
Your therapist will help you plan ahead so you can make informed decisions before your Medicare-eligible sessions run out.
